Commander of U.S. European Command Visits Bulboaca Training Ground (video)

CHISINAU, March 24, 2016 — Minister of Defense Anatol Salaru met today with Commander of the United States European Command, General Philip M. Breedlove, who is visiting the Republic of Moldova for the first time.

The two officials discussed about the military cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the USA, with a focus on the partnership progress.

The Minister of Defense appreciated the significant contribution of the US Government to the reformation and modernization of the Moldovan defense institution by implementing important projects for the National Army such as: expertise in the legislation field, logistic support, and training in American military schools.

Gen. Breedlove stated that our country is a trustworthy partner that can rely on the USA and NATO support for the achievement of its goals.

The American General underlined the National Army’s role in peace and security consolidation on regional and international level, by deploying troops in peacekeeping operations alongside service members from the USA and other nations. The Commander of the U.S. European Command said that the USA will continue to support the Republic of Moldova and the National Army through projects designed to build a well-trained army, in compliance with international standards.

After the meeting at the Ministry of Defense, Anatol Salaru and Philip Breedlove will go to the National Army military training base to meet with the Moldovan and American service members who are participating in “JCET-2016” exercise. The officials will tour the training center that is under renovation with the US financial support, as part of the Global Peace Operations Initiative (GPOI). The 1.6 million dollar grant intended for the project is used to develop the National Army training infrastructure, to increase the readiness of the Moldova soldiers for international operations.

After the visit, the officials will hold press statements.

The Commander of the U.S. European Command, Gen. Philip M. Breedlove, pays a visit to the Republic of Moldova within March 23-24. The visit is part of a regional tour.
