The National Army General Staff Celebrates 24th Anniversary



CHISINAU, April 25, 2016 — “The General Staff has an important role in the reformation of the Moldovan national defense system. Thus, the personnel of this entity must show professionalism and expertise in planning and organizing the real missions, established by the strategic documents”. The statement was made by Minister of Defense Anatol Salaru during the 24th anniversary ceremony of the National Army General Staff.

The event brought together advisers to the Prime Minister with responsibilities in the social care and relations with veterans, Maj. Gen. Ion Coropcean, and the National Army Commanding Officer Corps.

During the ceremony, Interim Chief of General Staff, National Army Commander, Brigadier Gen. Igor Cutie, said that, throughout 24 years, the General Staff planned and conducted a series of national and international exercises, and has also been supporting the population affected by natural disasters.

Moreover, the unit’s officers and NCOs participated in the Iraq post-conflict relief operations and UN and OSCE peacekeeping missions, as well as the mission in Kosovo.

The National Army General Staff is the troops’ military command and planning unit, established on April 24, 1992, based on the Republic of Moldova Government Decision as of March 25, 1992.
