NATO Summit: Minister of Defense Meets with His Counterparts from Italy and Turkey



Warsaw, July 9, 2016 —Minister of Defense Anatol Salaru met with his Italian counterpart, Roberta Pinotti at NATO Summit in Warsaw.

The officials discussed about the bilateral military cooperation. Thus, Minister Salaru thanked the Italian army for the support offered to the Moldovan peacekeepers’ contingent deployed to KFOR peacekeeping operation in Kosovo.

Roberta Pinotti highlighted the availability of the Italian battalion from Kosovo to continue to support the National Army soldiers in carrying out their missions within KFOR.

The Italian Minister also mentioned that her country would make efforts to increase the number of soldiers in the Moldovan KFOR contingent.

In Warsaw, Minister Salaru also met with Minister of Defense of Turkey, Fikri Ișik.

Anatol Salaru expressed his condolences to the Turkish official regarding the recent terrorist attacks at Ataturk Airport in Istanbul and pledged for intensifying the measures that would stop this radical phenomenon.

Minister Salaru appreciated the educational offer of the Turkish Government within the Peacekeeping operations training center in Ankara and for the training opportunities for National Army cadets at the Military Academy of Land Forces. The Moldovan Minister specified that, so far, 138 National Army soldiers studied in educational institutions in Turkey, while one soldier graduated from the Turkish Military Academy.

The Turkish Defense Minister mentioned the importance of the NATO Summit in Warsaw in the context of the current regional situation.

The official encouraged the reforms started by the Ministry of Defense and reiterated the availability of his country to continue the military partnership.
