Moldovan-Russian Meeting at Ministry of Defense

CHISINAU, September 21, 2016 — The representatives of the General Defense Policy and Planning Directorate (GDPPD) met with the Staff members of the military and air attaché of Russian Federation to Chisinau on September 20, 2016. The discussions took place at the initiative of the Ministry of Defense and were centered on the actions of the Task Force Group of Russian Troops (TFGRT) in Transnistria, as well as other cooperation aspects.

During the meeting, Head of the GDPPD, Col. Alexandru Harea, expressed the concern of the Ministry of Defense regarding the latest actions of the TFGRT.

The source specified that the Ministry of Defense condemns the organization of so-called “anti-terrorism” exercises, as well as the participation of TFGRT representatives in the activities conducted by the so-called leadership of Transnistria.

Such actions contravene the international law principle, are considered illegal and are inadmissible on Moldovan territory, thus imposing the necessity to unconditionally withdraw the foreign military troops without a precise legal status and their ammunition stockpile.

In this context, the Ministry of Defense leadership asked the Staff members to inform the leadership of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation about the unacceptable actions of the TFGRT and to take measures in order to avoid such activities in the future.

The officials also discussed about the cooperation between the two defense institutions, identifying some issues of joint interest that will be examined during the coordination of a bilateral cooperation plan.
