Military Academy “Alexandru cel Bun” Celebrates 24th Anniversary (video)



CHISINAU, October 7, 2016 — “Currently, the National Army of the Republic of Moldova has clear development goals, with focuses on Western standards of structure, thought, and action. It also aims to increase its ability to participate in international peacekeeping operations. The achievement of these objectives depends on the professionalism of the officers educated at the Military Academy of the Armed Forces ‘Alexandru cel Bun’ (MAAF), an institution that fortifies the National Army’s present and future”. The statement was made by Prime-Minister’s advisor, retired Maj. Gen. Ion Coropcean, during the ceremony marking the 24th anniversary of the institution.

The event was held at the MAAF and was attended by the leadership of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff, military attaches, pupils, students, and relatives of the Academy’s students.

Deputy Defense Minister Gheorghe Galbura congratulated the institution’s staff and awarded National Army medals and service performance diplomas to a group of military and civil personnel.

Gheorghe Galbura expressed his conviction that the professional success of Academy’s teaching staff and students will contribute to developing the military educational system, making it competitive on both national and international levels.

Commander (rector) of MAAF, Col. Sergiu Plop, stated that the Academy’s leadership priority is to connect with the international military and educational values. “In order to reach this goal, we will cooperate with foreign institutions, we will improve the Academy’s curriculum, we will bring here famous international professors who will provide training within specialized courses, and we will be open to innovation”, said Col. Plop.

The ceremony’s program included exhibitions of vehicles, weapons, and equipment, wrestling exercises, and a musical program. The guests had the opportunity to familiarize with the institution’s infrastructure, facilities, and activity.

The Military Academy “Alexandru cel Bun” was established on October 3, 1992, being at first a high-school, then college and institute. So far, the Military Academy educated about 1,750 officers at different specialties such as: infantry, artillery, communications, border guard, and carabineer.
