NATO Experts Offer Assistance on Development of Military Strategy of the Republic of Moldova

CHISINAU, November 4, 2016 — A group of NATO experts are paying a working visit to the Ministry of Defense within October 31-November 4, 2016, in order to offer assistance for developing the Military Strategy of the Republic of Moldova (MS RM).

While in Chisinau, the experts attended meetings and working sessions together with the representatives of the Ministry of Defense and General Staff departments responsible for writing the document. The talks aim to define the developing method and structure of the future MS RM, and to analyze our country’s security environment from a military point of view and its impact on establishing the Armed Forces’ goals and plan of actions.

The Military Strategy developed by the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff is a document referring to the Armed Forces’ development and represents the medium-term Government’s commitments in this sector.

Among the strategic documents on national defense and security, this strategy assesses the security environment, the military risks, the military goals, the necessary capabilities and priorities to achieve these goals, the concept of Armed Forces use, the tasks of force categories, the forces’ structure and training, as well as the necessary resources in order to reach the document’s goals.

The Military Strategy is developed according to the Defense Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI) which the Republic of Moldova joined at NATO Summit in Wales, in September 2014. Through this Initiative, NATO will provide assistance to Moldova for the assessment of its current defense capabilities and detection of the sectors that need to be developed.
