National Army Special Forces Celebrate 24th Anniversary (video)



CHISINAU, November 10, 2016 — A ceremony marking the 24th anniversary of the National Army Special Forces Battalion “Fulger” (SFB) was held today at the Military Compound 142 from Chisinau. The event was attended by the leadership of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff, former commanders of the unit, veterans, military attaches, friends and relatives of the service members.

Minister of Defense Anatol Salaru congratulated the unit’s staff and awarded National Army medals to a group of officers and NCOs.

“You are an example of success, professionalism, and commitment for those who serve in the National Army and for all Moldovan citizens. I am convinced that you will continue to be the ‘force in the air and on land’, as we are used to call you, and you will excel in fulfilling the missions of your unit”, stated Anatol Salaru.

Interim Commander of SFB, LTC Veaceslav Balan, said that 2016 was, for the Battalion, a year full of activities aimed to train the service members for the unit’s missions. “This year, we planned and organized the bilateral and regional exercise JCET, together with the Special Forces from Romania and the USA, at the National Army Training Area. We also participated in the multinational exercises ‘Saber Junction’ in Germany and ‘Junction Strike’ in Romania. Together with service members from Macedonia, Bulgaria, Albania, Germany, and the USA, we tested the interoperability and applied the latest techniques used by Special Forces”, mentioned LTC Balan.

The source added that, in 2016, a Course for snipers was organized for the first time. They also continued the training of service members within the Qualification course for special forces, Qualification course for static line and free fall parachute jumps, and the Survival course. The unit’s best service members studied at the most prestigious schools from the USA, schools that are training the best Special Forces representatives.

The ceremony’s program included wrestling exercises, tactical exercises comprising rappelling, advanced pistol shootings, survival techniques shown by SFB service members. The unit also presented its vehicles and weapons.

The National Army Special Forces Battalion “Fulger” was established on November 1, 1992, by Decree of the President of the Republic of Moldova.

The Unit combats terrorism, conducts special research and searching-rescuing missions, as well as protects strategic facilities.

In 2012, the National Army Special Forces Battalion “Fulger” was awarded “Credinta Patriei” Order (Loyalty to Motherland), class I.
