Moldovan-Romanian Military Cooperation Discussed in Bucharest

CHISINAU, September 30, 2016 — The defense bilateral cooperation and new development areas in the military sector were the main subjects discussed by Minister of Defense Anatol Salaru and his Romanian counterpart, Mihnea Motoc, today, in Bucharest.

Anatol Salaru appreciated the Romanian Government’s contribution to the National Army’s reformation and modernization process, with a focus on priority sectors for the Moldovan defense institution. Thus, the Minster of Defense thanked the Romanian official for the training opportunities for the Moldovan military personnel in specialized schools from Romania, as well as within bilateral and multinational exercises.

Anatol Salaru also mentioned the importance of the Joint Moldovan-Romanian military committee and the support offered to the National Army by Romanian experts in drafting strategic documents — the National Defense Strategy and the Military Strategy of the Republic of Moldova.

Mihnea Motoc underlined that the partnership between the armies of Moldova and Romania has “a special character” and is continuously developing.

The Minister of National Defense also added that Romania will continue to actively support the operationalisation of the NATO Liaison Office in Chisinau, as well as to offer assistance within the Allied Program for Military Education Development.

At the end of the meeting, the officials talked about the cooperation of the two armies in the framework of NATO and EU. The Minister of National Defense appreciated Republic of Moldova’s achievements within the Defense Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI). “We are still committed to support you in this area, through concrete contribution of Romanian experts in Chisinau, as well as through the identification of new practical ways of using the partnership tools offered by NATO” stated Minister Motoc.
