Chinese Government Donates Vehicles to the National Army

CHISINAU, August 29, 2017 — The Government of the People’s Republic of China offered to the National Army a batch of vehicles and goods for the amount of eight million Yuan (15 million lei), during a ceremony held today at the Ministry of Defense. The event was attended by Ambassador of People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Moldova, Zhang Yinghong, Prime-Minister’s advisor, retired Maj. Gen. Ion Coropcean, Deputy Defense Minister Gheorghe Galbura and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Lilian Darii.

Ambassador Zhang Yinghong said that, during the past 15 years, the People’s Republic of China has been offering logistics support to the National Army and that this donation contributes to the consolidation of the defense system and establishment of good working conditions for Moldovan service members.

On behalf of the Government, the Prime-Minister’s advisor thanked the Ambassador for the logistics assistance and specified that the donation of these vehicles is occurring in a period when every support is needed.

The Deputy Defense Minister stated that, for the National Army, this help is more than a friendship gesture. It is a direct contribution to the National Army endowment, an army that requires high investments.

According to head of Logistics Directorate, Col. Iurie Bruma, the donation includes 9 microbuses with different transportation capacity, 3 ambulances, 4 refrigerator vehicles, 10 electric generators, as well as spare parts for the vehicles.

The source specified that the Chinese Government covered all the costs for the shipment of the equipment to Constanta port in Romania, while the Ministry of Defense covered the transportation of the goods from Constanta to Chisinau.

The donation is based on the Agreement between the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova and Ministry of National Defense of the People’s Republic of China on a “Grant of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Moldova consisting of nonrefundable military help of eight million Yuan” launched in September, 2012 and signed in October, 2016.

The National Army received logistics assistance from the Chinese Government for a total amount of 18 million Yuan (30 million lei).

The Moldovan-Chinese military cooperation is based on the Agreement between the Ministries of Defense of the Republic of Moldova and the People’s Republic of China signed in Beijing, on June 23, 2002.
