Eugen Sturza – the New Minister of Defense



CHISINAU, October 24, 2017 — Interim President of the Republic of Moldova, President of the Parliament, Andrian Candu, presented today the new Minister of Defense, Eugen Sturza, to the institution’s Commanding Corps.

During the ceremony held at the Ministry of Defense, Andrian Candu handed to Eugen Sturza the Standard of Ministry of Defense, established by Presidential Decree on June 17, 2014, congratulated him and wished him success in his mandate.

The Interim President also thanked Gheorghe Galbura for fulfilling the interim position of Minister of Defense with patriotism and dignity.

Minister Sturza stated that the National Army requires modernization and professionalization. “To strengthen cooperation with international partners, to increase the efforts for achieving western standards, to modernize the technical-material base of the army with our partners’ support, to increase interoperability with the North Atlantic Alliance will remain our priorities for the near future. My goal is, by the end of this mandate, to set the National Army on an irreversible course of modernization”, said Eugen Sturza.

Interim President of the Republic of Moldova, President of the Parliament, Andrian Candu, signed the Decree on the appointment of Eugen Sturza as Minister of Defense on October 24, 2017. The Decree is based on art.91 and art.98, par. 6 of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova and considering the Decision of the Constitutional Court No. 28 as of October 17, 2017 enters into force on the date of signature.
