Minister of Defense Pays a Working Visit to Comrat

CHISINAU, March 16, 2018 — Minister of Defense Eugen Sturza paid a working visit to Comrat where he met with representatives of public authorities from Autonomous Territorial Unit Gagauz Yeri, staff responsible for enlistment, and local citizens.

The visit’s goal was to strengthen the dialogue between the Ministry of Defense and the Autonomy’s public authorities and to identify new cooperation opportunities.

The talks included topics regarding the streamlining of the process of enlistment in the National Army of young men from Gagauzia and ways of solving the problems of military reserve members from the region.

The Minister of Defense assured that the defense institution is concerned about the quality of enlistment in the National Army and creation of appropriate conditions for conscripts. Thus, Eugen Sturza mentioned that the military units’ infrastructure, including “Dacia” Brigade from Cahul, where the local young men are enlisted, will be enhanced by repairing the barracks and training buildings.

Minister Sturza said that, this year, the soldiers will be engaged in more practical activities and exercises at the Training centers in order to obtain a better military training.

Eugen Sturza also added that the Ministry of Defense will launch information campaigns to raise awareness about the military service and to promote the image of the National Army in the south.

Regarding the problems mentioned by the members of the reserve, the Minister of Defense stated that they will be analyzed and, as far as possible, solved.

While in Comrat, the Minister of Defense visited the Military-territorial center and observed the activity of the subdivision’s staff.
