The Ministry of Defense Starts to Substitute War Veterans’ Identification Cards



CHISINAU, April 10, 2018 — The Ministry of Defense started the preparatory actions for implementing the process of substitution of old identification cards of war veterans with a new model.

According to State Secretary for development of human resources policies, military education and planning of resources, Vladimir Iliev, one of the first actions of the Ministry of Defense was to sign a contract with the Public Institution “Public Services Agency” regarding the making of new identification cards.

There was established an Interdepartmental Committee that will ensure the substitution and issuing of war veteran identification cards, its members were appointed and its departmental regulations were approved ruling the Committee’s organization and functioning, as well as the instructions concerning the mechanism of issuing, handing, withdrawal, recording, and keeping of war veteran identification cards.

The source specified that the Committee has started its work on April 1, 2018 and it is evaluating the real number of veterans and by December 31, 2020 has to finalize the process of substitution of the identification cards.

Vladimir Iliev mentioned that 15,000 new identification cards will be made in 2018 and the process will include several stages. Thus, by May 1, 300 cards will be printed, by the end of the 2nd trimester — 4,900 cards, by the end of the 3rd trimester — 4,900 cards. Other 4,900 cards will be made by the end of the 4th trimester (no later than December 20).

The process of substituting the old identification cards of war veterans with a new type is part of the implementation of the Plan “Memory, Honor, Respect” aimed to build trust and to improve social and legal protection of war veterans who participated in the Afghan War and in the War for the defense of the Republic of Moldova’s territorial integrity and independence, approved by Government Provision No. 52-d as of April 19, 2016.

The decision regarding the war veterans’ identification cards was approved at the Cabinet of Minister’ meeting of February 22, 2018.
