Ammunition Destroyed in Causeni District

CHISINAU, April 12, 2018 — The engineers of “Codru” Battalion neutralized an arsenal of ammunition dating back to World War II in Plop-Stiubei village, Causeni district, on April 11.

According to Chief of Engineer Service, LTC Adrian Efros, the explosive objects were discovered by the local forester who immediately called the authorities. At their request, an engineer team commanded by 1st Lt. Ivan Cornegruta went to the forest near Plop-Stiubei village. After inspecting the territory, the military identified 24 explosive objects — artillery projectiles of 45 mm caliber, anti-tank mines, and hand grenades RGD-33. The ammunition was evacuated and destroyed under maximum security conditions.

The source mentioned that, on the same day, the engineer team of “Codru” Battalion intervened in Cobusca Veche village, Anenii Noi, where they identified and destroyed a hand grenade F-1 found by a villager while working in his garden.

This year, the National Army engineers neutralized 80 explosive objects throughout the country.
