Moldovan-American Defense Cooperation Discussed at Ministry of DefenseCHISINAU, April 18, 2018 — General State Secretary, Radu Burduja, met today with Deputy Director of Partnering and Missile Defense, United States European Command, Brigadier General Dawne Deskins. The two officials discussed about the bilateral defense cooperation, the current security context, military reform, as well as other issues of mutual interest. Radu Burduja informed Dawne Deskins about the agenda of the short and medium term reforms planned in the defense sector, with a focus on the initiative of professionalizing the National Army, strategic documents developed in the framework of the Defense Capacity Building Initiative for the Republic of Moldova, projects of endowment and acquisition of modern equipment and vehicles. The General State Secretary appreciated the constant support offered by the USA through various assistance and training programs, such as the International Military Education and Training (IMET) program, Global Peace Operations Initiative (GPOI), as well as joint activities and exercises conducted with the National Army in the Republic of Moldova and in the USA. Brigadier Gen. Deskins stated that the USA is ready to support the Republic of Moldova during the process of modernization of the entire defense system. Dawne Deskins expressed the hope that the joint training of military that is beneficial for both armies will continue and will be conducted within bilateral and multinational military exercises.
