National Army Service Members at “Viking - 2018”CHISINAU, April 20, 2018 — Within April 15 — April 28, 2018, a group of National Army service members is participating in the multinational exercise “Viking 2018” held simultaneously in Brazil, Bulgaria, Finland, Ireland, Serbia, and Sweden. The aim of the exercise organized by the Swedish Armed Forces, with the support of the Swedish Government, in cooperation with Folke Bernadotte Academy and the Swedish Defense University is to train and educate participants, civilian, military and police, to meet the challenges of current and future multinational crisis response and peace operations. According to chief of Strategic Planning Directorate of the General Staff, Col. Anatolie Zavtur, the National Army deployed to “Viking 2018” nine Moldovan officers. They are stationed in Belgrade, Serbia and carry out missions related to the exercises’ general staff departments. This is the eighth edition of “Viking” which is one of the world’s largest international staff exercises. This year, the exercise brings together 2,500 civilians, military and police representatives from 50 NATO states and partners within the Partnership for Peace, as well as representatives of 35 humanitarian organizations.
