Military Engineers on Duty



CHISINAU, July 3, 2018 — In June, the National Army engineers disposed of 19 explosive objects discovered in villages from Anenii Noi, Stefan Voda, Dubasari, and Ungheni districts.

According to head of Engineer Service, LTC Adrian Efros, all the ammunition — artillery projectiles, hand grenades, and mortar bombs — dated back to World War II.

The source specified that, recently, the engineers were called in to Cobusca village, Anenii Noi district, where the locals found 2 explosive objects in the nearby sand quarry. The engineer team of the Engineer Battalion commanded by Cpt. Igor Filimon identified 2 artillery projectiles of 100 mm caliber that were destroyed under maximum security conditions.

In the same period, in Pirlita village, Ungheni district, the engineer team commanded by 1st Lt. Ivan Cornegruta destroyed a mortar bomb of 82 mm caliber that was found by workers who were repairing the route Chisinau-Ungheni.

Since the beginning of this year, the National Army engineers disposed of 150 explosive objects throughout the country.
