Latvia Has a New Military Attaché in the Republic of Moldova



CHISINAU, July 30, 2018 — General State Secretary, Radu Burduja, met today with Ambassador of Latvia in the Republic of Moldova, Atis Lots, who presented the new Latvian military attaché based in Kiev, Col. Eriks Naglis.

Radu Burduja congratulated the military diplomat on his appointment and expressed the conviction that the new military attaché will contribute to the implementation of ongoing projects and to the strengthening of the Moldovan-Latvian defense partnership.

Col. Eriks Naglis stated that it is a privilege for him to be appointed as military diplomat in the Republic of Moldova and that he will make every effort for reinforcing the partnership with the National Army.

The new Latvian military attaché graduated from the US War College and has a MA in Strategic Studies. Col. Naglis held various command positions within Latvia’s defense institution and participated in peacekeeping operations in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iraq.

During the meeting, the officials also talked about the regional situation, bilateral military cooperation, and the prospects for consolidating the Moldovan-Latvian partnership.

The General State Secretary informed the Latvian officials about the defense institution’s main medium-term objectives, such as: National Army’s professionalization; development, approval, and implementation of defense strategic documents; and cooperation with international organizations. Radu Burduja also mentioned that Latvia is an example for the Republic of Moldova regarding the army’s reformation and that our country is interested in its expertise in the defense sector.

Atis Lots said that Latvia will continue to support the projects started by the Ministry of Defense that have the objective to transform the National Army into a professional institution that is ready to fulfill its missions.
