NATO experts evaluate defense reforms



CHISINAU, April 04, 2011 - A group of international experts will be working at the Ministry of Defense during April 4-6 on Republic of Moldova’s achievements in term of Partnership for Peace Planning and Review Process (PARP), as well as the goals assumed by our country within the Partnership for Peace (PfP) Program. 

Chief of Main Staff, National Army Commander, BG Iurie Dominic welcomed the NATO experts and appreciated PARP as a viable tool for our country to develop our capabilities to operate in a rapidly changing security environment. BG Iurie Dominic thanked the experts for the provided support. He specified the development and consolidation of NATO and Republic of Moldova relations of cooperation enriches experience in the area of Armed Forces modernization and reform. 

LTC Bora Onen of the NATO Defense Policy and Planning Department appreciated the progress of defense reforms. He specified the team of experts would be staying in Chisinau to measure the Moldovan party’s progress in term of Partnership for Peace Planning and Review Process (PARP), as well as provide all the necessary support to less developed areas. 

PARP meetings will bring together experts of the Ministry of Defense and Main Staff, as well as representatives of Ministries of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Finance, Interior, Carabineer Troops Department, Security Intelligence Service. 

The first PARP round started July 1995. In 2008, both the Ministry of Defense and the National Army assumed 34 partnership goals. The PARP engagement is reviewed each year according to an even round (PARP Partnership Goals) and odd round (PfP PARP Survey of Overall Interoperability) in joint cooperation with PARP experts and Republic of Moldova. 

NATO countries and its partners apply their experience to improve their own militaries in term of staff and linguistic training, access to information, statistics and other issues.
