Servicemen clean environment


CHISINAU, Aprilie 04, 2011 - Nearly 30 National Army servicemen cleaned the Bic River on Saturday, April 2. 

Thus, the National Army fulfilled the initiative of Chisinau authorities and the team “Hai, Moldova!” (Go, Moldova!) on one-day cleanup to precede the National Cleanup Day marked April 16. 

The Commander of the 22nd Peacekeeping Battalion, Maj. Roman Ceban, stated National Army servicemen care about the environment and support the above initiative. 

The servicemen of the 22nd Peacekeeping Battalion were given special suits and tools, which they used to clean the downtown part of the Bic River, along with 300 volunteers, including formal and informal groups from Moldova such as: the Scouts’ Movement, Hai Moldova Group of Initiative from Micleuseni, Noroc Volosatii, and others. 

The participants gathered 14 tones of garbage and 2 tons of plastic staff. The plastic bottles, bags and the paperboard were gathered by ABS Company for recycling. The Mayoralty of Chisinau was in charge of gathering the garbage. 

On April 16, the National Cleanup Day, the National Army will engage nearly 2000 servicemen in cleanup activities.
