Experts of the International Committee of the Red Cross at Ministry of Defense



Chisinau, September 17, 2018 — Minister of Defense Eugen Sturza and National Army Commander, Brig. Gen. Igor Cutie met today with a group of experts of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) who are paying a working visit to the Ministry of Defense.

The officials assessed the current stage of cooperation between the defense institution and the ICRC and the main achievements in the area.

In this regard, the Minister of Defense appreciated ICRC’s contribution to the training of jurists, psychologists, military deployed to KFOR, as well as professors of the Military Academy of Armed Forces “Alexandru cel Bun” (MAAF).

Eugen Sturza also thanked for the assistance offered by the ICRC for the setting up of two international humanitarian law classrooms at the MAAF, publishing of some specialized brochures for the military units and the availability to support National Army’s efforts aimed to secure the ammunition depots.

According to Col. of justice Viorel Remesovschi, chief of the Law Department of the General Staff, while in Chisinau, the ICRC experts will meet with representatives of the Ministry of Defense, National Army General Staff, and the Military Academy of Armed Forces in order to identify new cooperation projects.

The ICRC delegation will also hold training seminars regarding the International humanitarian law for the representatives of the National Army’s law service, personnel and training services.

The activity takes place within September 17-21, 2018 and is part of the Moldova’s Cooperation plan between the Regional Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross and the National Army General Staff for 2018.
