Students of Military Academy “Alexandru cel Bun” Win “Defense Minister’s Cup”



CHISINAU, October 5, 2018 — The students of Military Academy of Armed Forces “Alexandru cel Bun” won the Defense Minister’s Cup at the military skills competition, a sports event conducted in the National Army within October 3-5, 2018. The trophy was presented to the winning team by Eugen Sturza during the awarding ceremony held today in “Stefan cel Mare” Brigade.

The Minister of Defense congratulated the students’ team on their performance and highlighted that the physical training is a key-element in the training of National Army’s conscripts and service members.

Eugen Sturza also appreciated the excellent results of the teams of Special Forces Battalion “Fulger” and “Stefan cel Mare” Brigade that won the competition’s second and third place.

“Now, when our objective is to reform the National Army and to have professional officers and NCOs, we are obliged to identify and enlist in the military units the best young people who are well-trained both intellectually and physically”, said Eugen Sturza.

According to chief of Physical training service of Doctrine and Joint Training Directorate, Col. Vasile Olednic, this year’s competition brought together teams from all the National Army units that competed in: triathlon, polyathlon, hand-grenade throwing, TT pistol shooting, rifle shooting, mixed relay race, and wrestling.

The Defense Minister’s Cup is held yearly and aims to improve the skills and sports performance of National Army service members.
