National Army Commander at Chiefs of Defense Conference in the USA



CHISINAU, October 17, 2018 — Chief of the National Army General Staff, National Army Commander, Brig. Gen. Igor Cutie participated in the Chiefs of Defense Conference on countering violent extremism organized in Washington on October 16.

During the event that brought together Chiefs of Defense from 82 countries, there were discussed topics related to fighting current threats to global security caused by violent extremist organizations and the importance of partnerships and increased communication for the identification and counteracting of such threats.

In the framework of the Conference, Brig. Gen. Cutie has met with his counterparts from Lithuania, Estonia, Georgia and representatives of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. During these meetings, the officials talked about the main achievements in the military field and the identification of new cooperation areas.

While in Washington, the National Army Commander has also met with Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova in the United States of America, Cristina Balan, and informed her about the defense institution’s priorities, including the strengthening of the strategic partnership with the USA.

In this regard, Brig. Gen. Cutie expresses his conviction that the appointment of a military attaché would boost the cooperation between the two states.

The Chiefs of Defense Conference on countering violent extremist organizations is conducted for the third year in a row. The Republic of Moldova has participated in this event for the first time.
