Gender Equality in the Defense Sector Studied by National Army RepresentativesCHISINAU, October 24, 2018 — Representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the National Army are learning about gender equality during the seminar “Gender Equality in the Defense Sector” organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) within October According to chief of Human Resources Development and Military Education Policy Directorate, Col. Alexandru Roman, the activity’s objective is to reduce stereotypes and prejudices regarding the role of men and women in the defense and security sector, to integrate the gender equality perspective, and to promote the gender equality in the military sector. The source specified that during the training sessions held by international military experts on gender equality from the United Nations Development Programme/South Eastern and Eastern Europe Clearinghouse for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (UNDP/ SEESAC), the participants study general notions about gender equality, gender stereotypes, gender discrimination, gender in the framework of the security sector reform, the best practices implemented by the Armed Forces in the Western Balkans, and the provisions of the National Action Plan on the implementation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security. The event is organized in the framework of the project “Support to the Security Sector Reform in the Republic of Moldova”, financed by the Ministry of Defense and UNDP.
