Moldovan-Hungarian Defense Cooperation Analyzed at Ministry of Defense



CHISINAU, November 13, 2018 — The bilateral defense cooperation and the opportunities for its reinforcement were the main subjects discussed today by State Secretary Vladimir Iliev and Ambassador of Hungary in the Republic of Moldova, Sándor Szabó, during a meeting organized at the Ministry of Defense.

The talks were focused on the training opportunities offered by the Hungarian Government to National Army service members, as well as on continuing the implementation of the Moldovan-Hungarian Cross-governmental Agreement on keeping alive the memory of military and civilian war victims.

Vladimir Iliev thanked the Hungarian Government for the contribution in training Moldovan officers and NCOs in specialized institutions from Budapest. State Secretary Iliev referred also to the joint actions of taking care of tombs and keeping alive the memory of war victims by opening monuments and funerary stones in the Republic of Moldova.

Vladimir Iliev informed the Hungarian diplomat about the main achievements of the Moldovan security and defense sector’s reformation, with a focus on adjusting the legal framework by approving the policy documents, increasing the National Army capabilities, making the contract-based military service more attractive by improving social care, endowing and offering quality training to the staff, as well as intensifying participation in international peace-keeping missions.

Sándor Szabó mentioned that Hungry is willing to intensify the defense cooperation with our country by identifying and implementing joint assistance and expertise projects that would benefit the reformation and modernization of the military institution of the Republic of Moldova. The official thanked the Ministry of Defense’s leadership for an active and efficient contribution to the building and expansion of the monument dedicated to Hungarian soldiers and civilians who died during World War II that has been recently inaugurated in Balti city.
