The Defense Institutions of the Republic of Moldova and Romania Consolidate Military Training Cooperation (video)



CHISINAU, November 22, 2018 — Minister of Defense Eugen Sturza and his Romanian counterpart, Gabriel Les, have signed today a Declaration of Intent regarding the development of an intensified training framework in the prospect of creating a Romanian-Moldovan mixed unit.

The document has been signed during the joint meeting of the Governments of the Republic of Moldova and Romania and provides for the continuation and consolidation of the training activities of certain units of the two countries’ armies, the development of a training calendar in order to obtain an optimal level of interoperability, the creation of a working group at planning departments level for discussing organizational and operational aspects, as well as joining efforts in order to identify opportunities for joint participation in UN peacekeeping and humanitarian missions.

The Declaration is based on the provisions of the Agreement between the Government of Romania and the Government of the Republic of Moldova on military cooperation, signed in Chisinau on April 20, 2012, and of the Protocol on its amendment signed in Bucharest on December 1, 2016, and has the objective of implementing the bilateral cooperation’s programs and of strengthening the cooperation between the National Army of the Republic of Moldova and the Romanian Army.
