Bilateral Moldovan-Swedish Consultations at Ministry of DefenseCHISINAU, May 15, 2019 — The Moldovan-Swedish defense consultations have started today in Chisinau with the participation of representatives of International Cooperation and Strategic Planning Directorate and their counterparts from the Kingdom of Sweden. During the event, the experts are reviewing the bilateral activities in different areas that have been conducted in 2018 and are establishing the cooperation priorities for 2019. The talks mainly relate to the defense sector’s reformation process, the actions aimed to transform the National Army, with a focus on the institution’s professionalization, increasing participation in peacekeeping operation, defense capacities’ building, as well as identification of new joint projects. While in Chisinau, the delegation from the Kingdom of Sweden has met with General State Secretary, Radu Burduja. The officials talked about the implementation in our country of the provisions of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 “Women, Peace, and Security” and the Program on Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) and Ammunition Stockpiles, actions conducted with Sweden’s support. In this regard, Radu Burduja mentioned the importance of bilateral military cooperation for the Ministry of Defense and thanked the representatives of Sweden for the support in meeting international commitments. Jerker Sundstrom, Chief of the delegation of the Ministry of National Defense of Sweden, mentioned his country’s availability to continue to support the reform started in the National Army through assistance projects requested by the Moldovan partners.
