Minister of Defense Meets with International Committee of the Red Cross Delegation
CHISINAU, May 15, 2019 — Minister of Defense Eugen Sturza and National Army Commander, Brig. Gen. Igor Cutie, met today with the Regional Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for Russian Federation, Belarus, and Republic of Moldova, led by Magne Barth. The talks related to the current stage of cooperation between the defense institution and ICRC, the main achievements, and the joint projects that are to be implemented.
In this regard, the Minister of Defense appreciated ICRC’s contribution to the training of National Army staff — jurists, psychologists, service members deployed to KFOR operation in Kosovo, and professors from the Military Academy of Armed Forces “Alexandru cel Bun” (MAAF).
Eugen Sturza also mentioned the ICRC’s assistance in making more secure the National Army ammunition depots with the objective of reducing the risks of uncontrolled explosions at the ammunition and weapons depots.
In 2016, the Regional Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross and the National Army General Staff have signed a Cooperation protocol and annual cooperation plans that include joint activities of training and assistance in relevant areas.
