Air Show Organized in Marculesti on “Decebal” Regiment’s Anniversary

CHISINAU, May 31, 2019 — Over 500 people attended today a public event organized on the international airport Marculesti on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of Air Regiment “Decebal”.

The activity has been attended by Prime-Minister’s State advisor, retired Maj. Gen. Ion Coropcean, Ambassador of Romania in the Republic of Moldova, Daniel Ionita, military attaches, unit’s veterans, pupils and locals from the northern part of the country.

Minister of Defense Eugen Sturza congratulated the unit’s staff and awarded a group of service members Government diplomas and National Army medals as a sign of appreciation of their service performance.

Eugen Sturza specified that the reform that has been started by the defense institution refers to military aviation as well. Thus, next year, there will be developed capabilities for supervision and control of the national air space.

“‘Decebal’ Regiment will be modern, it will have the necessary equipment and professional service members who know how to do their job well. I thank you for your service, dear colleagues, you are our most valuable resource,” said Eugen Sturza.

An air show has been organized in Marculesti on the occasion of the unit’s day. The air show included demonstration flights on AN-2 aircraft and MI-2 helicopter, parachute jumps at altitude of 350 m from the Romanian Air Forces’ aircraft C-27J Spartan, wrestling and weapon-handling exercises, a military music program, exhibitions of vehicles, equipment, and weapons, games and competitions.

The Air Regiment “Decebal” was established on May 28, 1992.
