The Soldiers Who Participated in “Agile Hunter 2019” Return Home (video)

CHISINAU, July 31, 2019 — The National Army contingent deployed to the exercise “Agile Hunter 2019” in California, USA, has returned home.

On this occasion, the Ministry of Defense organized a ceremony that was attended by Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu, US Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova Dereck J. Hogan, Minister of Defense Pavel Voicu, National Army Commander, Brig. Gen. Igor Gorgan, and the service members of the National Army Commanding Corps.

Prime Minister Sandu congratulated the soldiers of the National Army contingent on successfully completing the “Agile Hunter 2019” exercise and specified: “This military exercise marks the over 20 years of partnership and cooperation with North Carolina National Guard, a partnership which allows us to develop the military professionalism and to modernize the National Army capabilities. On this occasion, on behalf of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, I express our gratitude to our American partners for the continuous support and contribution to fortifying the security, sovereignty, and independence of the Republic of Moldova.”

US Ambassador Dereck J. Hogan stated that the National Army’s participation in this exercise is important on multiple levels. “First of all, it proves that the Moldovan Army is able to mobilize and deploy a subunit to an international mission which is an important objective for any army in the world. Secondly, it shows that the National Army is a reliable partner which is able to integrate itself with Western countries’ armies within foreign operational environments. It also demonstrates the unwavering character of our enduring investments in the development process of the National Army of the Republic of Moldova and our support for your critical role as a partner ensuring security, peace, and stability in the Black Sea region,” mentioned Ambassador Hogan.

During June 28-July 26, 2019, over 100 Moldovan officers and NCOs participated in the exercise “Agile Hunter 2019” organized at Fort Irwin National Training Center in California.

The exercise had the objective to increase the level of interoperability between the two armies’ subunits, to build defense capacities, and to train the Moldovan soldiers for peacekeeping operations.

The participation of the Moldovan service members in the training in the USA is included in the Plan of foreign activity of the Ministry of Defense and the National Army for 2019.

“Agile Hunter” is organized through the Partnership Program with North Carolina National Guard and was conducted for the fourth year in a row.
