Members of the US Congress, at the Ministry of Defense

CHIŞINĂU, August13, 2019 – The Minister of Defense Pavel Voicu met with the members of the United States Congress, Rebecca Leggieri, Hayden Milberg and Charles Newt McKissick.

The main topics addressed during the meeting were the following: the current state of bilateral relations between Moldova and the United States on the military segment, the regional situation, the reform of the National Army, the collaboration with foreign partners and international organizations, as well as the assistance programs and projects implemented in the defense sector of the Republic of Moldova.

The officials discussed, about the achievements of the Ministry of Defense in modernizing the National Army, the objectives of professionalizing the institution, as well as the importance of participating in peacekeeping missions with an international mandate.

The Minister of Defense appreciated the support offered by the US Government in preparing the Moldovan military for exercises and specialized courses, reforming and transforming the defense institution and implementing assistance programs, including the Defense Improvement Initiative (DCBI).

Finally, the parties agreed on additional bilateral cooperation and reform of the defense and security sector in our country.
