International experts at the Ministry of Defense
CHISINAU, October 3, 2019 - A team of NATO experts, responsible for implementing the Defense Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI) package for the Republic of Moldova, is paying a working visit to the Ministry of Defense between September 28 and October 6.
According to the State Secretary, Aurel Fondos, during the period, the experts met with the leadership of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff of the National Army, the heads of the subdivisions responsible for military reform, in which they discussed the draft Plan for developing military capabilities. Long-term national elections, in the context of the implementation of the reform of the defense institution, provided in the strategic documents - National Defense Strategy, Military Strategy, "Professional Army 2018 – 2021" Program, Phase II of the DCBI, as well as the Government actions for the years 2019-2020.
Aurel Fondos specified that the purpose of the discussions and consultations with DCBI experts is to complete and finalize the draft of the above-mentioned Plan.
It should be mentioned that in June 2015, the Republic of Moldova was accepted by the North Atlantic Alliance as part of the DCBI, the Ministry of Defense being designated as the institution responsible for its implementation. DCBI aims to strengthen the defense capacity of the Republic of Moldova and involves an assistance package divided into two phases.
In the first phase, the Ministry of Defense worked with international experts to provide support and advice in developing policy documents.
The second phase involves the allocation of assistance, including by establishing trust funds for the Republic of Moldova that will contribute substantially to the development of the national defense system.
