Minister of Defense, in dialogue with Barbora Margoldova, DCBI coordinator



CHISINAU, October 23, 2019 - Minister of Defense Pavel Voicu had a meeting today with Barbora Margoldova, coordinator in the field of implementation of the Defense Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI) for the Republic of Moldova.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the leadership of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff of the National Army.

The officials` dialogue focused on the actions taken in the first phase of the DCBI and the priorities for the next period.

On this occasion, Pavel Voicu welcomed the appointment by NATO of a DCBI coordinator, which will help identify the tools and activities needed to achieve the objectives set out in the strategic documents, prepared with the support of foreign experts.

The Minister of Defense specified that the Republic of Moldova continues to rely on the assistance of partners and in the conduct of the second phase of the DCBI, which involves the reform of the defense structure through joint projects, beneficial to the National Army.

It should be mentioned that the Republic of Moldova was accepted by the North Atlantic Alliance as part of the DCBI in June 2015, the Ministry of Defense being designated as the institution responsible for its implementation. DCBI aims to strengthen the defense capacity of the Republic of Moldova and involves an assistance package divided into two phases.

In the first phase, the Ministry of Defense worked with international experts to provide support and advice in developing policy documents.

The second phase focuses on providing assistance, including by establishing trust funds for the Republic of Moldova that will substantially contribute to the development of the national defense system.
