UN officials at the Ministry of Defense



CHISINAU, December 17, 2019 - Minister of Defense Victor Gaiciuc had a meeting with the United Nations delegation in the Republic of Moldova, led by Simon Springett, UN resident coordinator.

The main points were focused on cooperation with external partners, international organizations and their support in modernizing the defense institution.

In this regard, the Minister of Defense appreciated the contribution of the UN, through its agencies - the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and UN Women in Moldova - to the development of projects beneficial to the National Army.

Victor Gaiciuc referred, thus, to the improvement of the security infrastructure at the army weapons and ammunition depots, the assistance in the field of security reform in the Republic of Moldova for 2018-2020, the endowment of the Central Military Clinical Hospital and the Diagnostic Consultative Center with modern equipment.

UN Resolution 1325 "Women, Peace and Security", as well as the creation of the Electronic State Register of Defense Resources.

In turn, Simon Springett appreciated the contribution of the Republic of Moldova to global security, by deploying the National Army soldiers in peacekeeping missions with a UN mandate.

The official added that the UN will continue to support the defense institution, carrying out and initiating new projects necessary for the development of the army of the Republic of Moldova.
