Moldovan-Lithuanian dialogue at the Ministry of Defence

CHISINAU, July 8, 2020 - The Minister of Defense Alexandru Pinzari had a meeting today with the Lithuanian Ambassador to our country, Kęstutis Kudzmanas.

The two officials discussed the regional situation, statistics and measures taken in the National Army in connection with the spread of COVID-19, the stage of Moldovan-Lithuanian cooperation in the field of defense and joint actions taken in this regard.

Minister Alexandru Pinzari thanked the Lithuanian side for the humanitarian aid provided to the Republic of Moldova for combating the new coronavirus, as well as for the assistance provided to the defense institution in our country in implementing the NATO Defense Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI) in various fields, including information technology and strategic communication.

During the meeting, the Minister of Defense also highlighted the contribution of Lithuanian partners in the professional training of the National Army by granting, during the bilateral collaboration, an impressive number of scholarships in military education institutions in Lithuania. At the same time, the official referred to the support of Moldova`s efforts to participate in international crisis management operations under the auspices of the EU Common Security and Defense Policy (CSDP), one of which is the EU Mission in Mali.

For his part, Kęstutis Kudzmanas said Lithuania would continue to provide assistance to the Moldovan Ministry of Defense in areas of common interest.

In the end, the officials agreed to intensify cooperation between the two defense institutions through expertise, exchange of experience and training.

The collaboration between the Republic of Moldova and Lithuania in the military field started in November 2000.
