Moldovan-British dialogue on the dimension of gender and cultural minority



CHISINAU, December 16, 2020 - State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense, Vladimir Ilyev met with the Defense Attaché of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Squadron Commander Rob Hall.

During the meeting, the project "Women and Cultural Minorities Initiative" (Women and Cultural Minorities Initiative) was presented, developed by the British side in the context of assisting in increasing the role and participation of women and ethnic minorities in the security and defense sector.

The initiative provides an analysis of the situation of women and ethnic minorities in the National Army and other force structures in the Republic of Moldova in order to identify challenges in the field and ways to solve problems.

Vadim Vieru was appointed as a national expert hired for the development of the project, who was previously involved in the implementation of similar programs within the UN Women organization in the Republic of Moldova.

Secretary of State  Vladimir Iliev, noted that the initiative launched by British colleagues is a benefit for the military system, especially because it aims to develop the National Army in other dimensions and assured the attaché Rob Hall of all the support of the institution`s management in achieving this goal.
At the same time, officials examined the possibility of establishing co-operation between the National Army Women`s Association and the Women`s Association of the British Ministry of Defense.
