Moldovan-American cooperation in the field of defense discussed by the commander of the National Army



CHISINAU, January 22, 2021 - The Chief of the General Staff of the National Army, Commander of the National Army, Brigadier General Igor Gorgan, had a working meeting with the US military attaché, Commander Joshua Hensley, as well as with the head of the US Military Cooperation Office in Republic of Moldova, Major Raymond Sienkiewicz.

During the talks, officials addressed issues of the current state of bilateral defense cooperation, with a particular focus on ensuring continuity in the implementation of the military capability development initiative, preparation for participation in peacekeeping missions, but also on the collaboration activities between the armies of the two states for the year 2021.

General Gorgan appreciated the continuous support from the American partners in reforming the security and defense sector of the Republic of Moldova, as well as in implementing assistance projects in the field of training, logistics and medicine, which contribute to increasing and maintaining the level of combat readiness of the National Army. .

In turn, Commander Hensley reiterated the US Government's support in developing bilateral cooperation in the military segment, noting that it will work to help strengthen the partnership between the two armies by carrying out various programs of common interest.

Moldovan-American cooperation in the field of defense is based on the Memorandum "On cooperation in the military field between the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova and the Department of Defense of the United States of America", signed on December 4, 1995.
