The commemoration ceremony for the victims of the disaster at Chernobyl, discussed at the Ministry of Defense



CHISINAU, April 16, 2021 - Members of the Organizing Committee for carrying out the activities dedicated to the Day of commemoration of the victims of the catastrophe at C.A.E. Chernobyl and other nuclear damage met at the Ministry of Defense to discuss actions to commemorate participants in the liquidation of the consequences of this tragic accident.

Thus, the meeting Agenda, included the analysis of activities planned for April 26 this year throughout the country, but also addressing the organizational, financial and logistical problems facing the institutions responsible for implementing the Action Plan commemorative. Another important topic was the initiative to build the C.A.E. Chernobyl and other nuclear damage in Chisinau and discussing proposals on how to finance the completion of its construction. At the same time, the attention of the members of the Committee was the need to observe all the restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic during the public events dedicated to the day of commemoration of the victims of the Chernobyl catastrophe. "This year, unfortunately, we have to carry out the activities dedicated to the Day of commemoration of the victims of the catastrophe at C.A.E. Chernobyl and other nuclear damage under the COVID-19 pandemic. For this reason, the number of participants and the size of the event will be reduced, so as not to endanger the life and health of the citizens ", mentioned minister Victor Gaiciuc at the meeting.

At the same time, the Minister of Defense added that it is the duty of every citizen to keep alive the memory of the participants in the liquidation of the consequences of the nuclear damage, who acted bravely, endangering their own health and even their lives.

According to the Government Order no. 27-d of March 30, 2021, during the year, in Chisinau, but also in the localities of the country, a series of events will be organized dedicated to the Day of commemoration of the victims of the catastrophe at C.A.E. Chernobyl and other nuclear damage, including exhibitions of historical documents and materials, round tables, public debates, restoration, arrangement and inauguration of monuments, memorial plaques and tombs of fallen heroes, as well as educational-patriotic and commemorative activities in institutions education in the country.

At the same time, persons with disabilities, whose disability is caused by participating in the liquidation of the consequences of the damage from the C.A.E. Chernobyl, people who became ill with actinic disease or became disabled as a result of nuclear experiments, ionized radiation damage and their consequences for civilian or military nuclear targets during military or special service and families (spouses, and in the case of in their absence, one of the parents) participants in the liquidation of the consequences of the damage from the CAE Chernobyl deceased, will receive annual assistance in accordance with applicable law.

The day of commemoration of the victims of the catastrophe at C.A.E. Chernobyl and other nuclear damage (April 26), was established by the Decision of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova no. 433/1990 to pay homage to the heroism of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, participants in the liquidation of the consequences of the disaster caused by the tragic accident, which took place 35 years ago, at the Nuclear Power Plant in Chernobyl, Ukraine.
