The Moldovan-Romanian Joint Defense Commission met in Bucharest

CHISINAU, November 24, 2021 - The Moldovan-Romanian Joint Commission in the field of defense met in Bucharest, Romania, on November 23, this year.

The activity, which is in its sixth edition, was attended by representatives of the defense institutions of the Republic of Moldova and Romania.

The agenda of the discussions included topics related to the process of transforming the National Army, reforming the defense sector according to democratic standards, training the military, increasing interoperability in joint activities and in international peacekeeping missions. At the same time, the parties mentioned the assistance programs and the support offered by the Romanian partners, but also the planned bilateral activities.

In this regard, during the meeting was signed the Bilateral Cooperation Plan between the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova and the Romanian Ministry of National Defense for 2022.

In Bucharest, the delegation of the Republic of Moldova, led by the Secretary of State in the field of defense policy, national defense planning and military interoperability, Valeriu Mija, had a series of meetings with the Secretary of State of the Ministry of National Defense, for defense policy, planning and international relations, Simona Cojocaru, the Chief of the Defense Staff, Lieutenant General Daniel Petrescu, as well as with the Secretary of State of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dan Neculaescu. The main topics addressed during the meetings referred to the Moldovan-Romanian collaboration in the field of defense, the current objectives of governance in the military segment, but also the perspectives for the development of the strategic partnership with Romania.

The meetings of the Joint Commission shall be held annually, on a parity basis, in accordance with Article 5 of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of Romania on military cooperation, signed in Chisinau on 20 April 2012.

The first meeting of the Moldovan-Romanian Joint Commission in the field of defense took place on September 21, 2015, in our country.
