Nine explosive devices liquidated by the National Army EOD engineers


CHISINAU, June 21, 2011 — The groups of military EOD engineers were called to the districts of Ungheni, Anenii Noi, Falesti and Orhei.

According to LTC Mihail Semionov, National Army EOD Department, the group run by Capt. Nicolae Teleghin from Codru EOD Battalion, discovered an F-1 grenade near a PECO Gas and Fuel Station in Bacioi, Chisinau. After a thorough investigation, the EODs concluded the device dated back to Second World War and was very dangerous for the local population. Thus, they decided to destroy the explosive in the field.

Three 100 mm artillery projectiles were discovered by local citizens in Falesti, Ungheni and Nisporeni districts while working in the field. They called the group of EOD engineers from Moldova Brigade, Balti, and EOD Engineer Battalion, that concluded the ammunition was of German origin and dated back to World War II. At the same time, EOD engineers liquidated two 82 mm mine launchers mines and 14 mm and 5 mm bullets in Varnita village, Anenii Noi, and Orhei District.

LTC Semionov stated that, this year, the National Army engineers went to 122 bomb disposal sites and liquidated 1986 explosive devices all over the country.
