Interdepartmental Committee for the exchange and issue of war veteran`s identity cards, on-site visit

CHISINAU, February 11, 2022 - Members of the Interdepartmental Commission for ensuring the exchange and issuance of war veterans' identity cards met with veterans from the country`s districts.

Thus, in the context of streamlining the process of issuing the new type of ID cards for veterans, meetings were held in Soroca and Varnita with representatives of veterans` organizations and associations, local public authorities, and the State Chancellery`s Office for Relations with Veterans.

The decision was taken by the Ministry of Defense, together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which decided to bring together the two commissions in order to speed up the process of examining files with a view to issuing veterans` cards and changing the old documents attesting to this status.

The first such activity took place in the locality of Varnita, where more than 390 war veterans and almost 50 non-combatant volunteers are currently registered.

It should be noted that last December, the Government approved the extension of the deadline for changing the old model war veteran`s identity cards to the new model until 31st December 2022. At the same time, the old model will remain valid until January 1st, 2023. The decision was conditional on the fact that so far only about 65% of the cards held by people registered as war veterans have been exchanged.

According to data presented by the Interdepartmental Commission for ensuring the exchange and issuance of war veteran`s ID cards, to date, the status of a war veteran, with the issuance of new type ID cards, has been reconfirmed for 22,606 persons.
