Military Engineers were called to localities in the north and center of the country.

CHISINAU, April 8, 2022 - In the last few weeks, the engineers of the National Army liquidated 32 explosive objects and 114 cartridges of different caliber in the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti, as well as in the localities from Anenii Noi, Orhei, Dubasari, Straseni, Ialoveni, Singerei districts Falesti, Ungheni, and Hincesti.

According to the head of the Genius Service of the National Army, Lieutenant-Colonel Igor Livitchi, in the second half of March, the team of the Genius Battalion "Codru" led by Major Alexandru Atroscenco, intervened in Cocieri village, Dubasari district, where a local found in his garden several explosives. As a result of the ground research, military engineers identified an RKG-3 hand grenade, a VOG-17 grenade, a UZRGM fuze, and 114 different caliber cartridges. The ammunition, which dates back to World War II, was destroyed for maximum safety.

During the same period, the group of engineers from the Motorized Infantry Brigade "Moldova" led by Captain Serghei Condrea, was called to the village of Grigoresti, Singerei district, where the locals found in the nearby forest an artillery projectile, 122 mm caliber and a mortar bomb of 120 mm caliber.

The same team moved on April 1 to a neighborhood in Balti to evacuate a mortar bomb of 82 mm caliber. The ammunition was discovered after excavations on Burebista Street in the city and presented a danger to the locals.

All explosive devices were transported to the Training Center of Brigade "Moldova" for destruction.

Since the beginning of the year, 35 demining missions have been carried out, as a result of which 120 explosives of various types and 7,999 cartridges have been destroyed throughout the country.


We remind you that on April 4th, the Ministry of Defense launched a campaign to inform and raise awareness about the danger of unexploded ordnance in the Republic of Moldova with the slogan "A wrong step can cost you your life!".

The action aims to inform and raise awareness of the risks which citizens potential threats in the event of the discovery of explosive objects on the ground and their improper handling, especially during agricultural work.
