KFOR-16 - five months of mission



CHISINAU, May 19, 2022 — National Army service members deployed to the peacekeeping operation KFOR in Kosovo are carrying out missions in a theater of operations.

According to the Moldovan contingent`s Commander LTC, Lieutenant-Colonel Vladimir Covalenco, Moldovan peacekeepers conduct daily combined patrols (by car and on foot) in the area of responsibility of the Regional-Western Command (CR-W). At the same time, the infantry guards and protects objects of major importance, including the Visoki Dečani Monastery.

The source noted that KFOR-16 engineers are also conducting reconnaissance and clearing missions in the operational area of the explosives.

The KFOR-16 contingent was deployed to Kosovo in January 2022. Its term will be six months.

The KFOR peacekeeping operation is being led by the North Atlantic Alliance in accordance with UN Resolution 1244.
