The "Shield of Peace" exercise takes place in the National Army

CHISINAU, June 21, 2022 - The exercise "Shield of Peace 2022" takes place between June 20-24 at the training centers of the National Army.

According to Lieutenant-Colonel Sorin Bacalu, the superior of the evaluation team, more than 400 soldiers from the National Army units participate in the training.

The source specified that during the exercise, the participating subunits are assessed in compliance with the Concept of Operational Capabilities (OCC), which is a mandatory condition for participation in external peacekeeping operations. The military is checked on the performance of missions specific to international theaters of operations.

This year, two infantry subunits, as well as a genius group, are being tested by national and international evaluators from Norway, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania, Georgia, Austria, and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The Operational Concept Capability (OCC) is a collaborative tool in the Partnership for Peace program, which aims to implement Western standards in the training and assessment of declared subunits. OCC certification is a prerequisite for the participation of the National Army in UN-sponsored peacekeeping missions, including KFOR in Kosovo. To date, the Republic of Moldova has deployed 16 military contingents in the operation, which were assessed in compliance with the OCC in previous editions of the "Shield of Fire" exercise.

For the first time in 2012, a subunit of infantry and a group of engineers from the National Army were certified to participate in international peacekeeping operations under the OCC mandate.

The National Army joined the OCC in 2007.
