Moldovan-Romanian Military Cooperation Discussed at Ministry of Defense

CHISINAU, September 21, 2022 — Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatii and Commander of the National Army, Brigadier General Eduard Ohladciuc, met with the Chief of the Romanian General Staff, General Daniel Petrescu, on an official visit to Chisinau, on the occasion of the exercise "Fire Shield-2022".

During the dialog, the officials addressed topics related to bilateral cooperation on the military segment and prospects for its intensification, reform of the defense sector in the Republic of Moldova, participation in peacekeeping operations with an international mandate, but also about the regional security situation.

Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatii appreciated the constant support of the Romanian Government for the reform of the defense field in our country, mentioning that Romania was and is a valuable strategic partner for our country.

In his turn, General Petrescu reiterated his willingness to continue supporting the modernization process of the national Army according to Western and democratic standards. In this regard, the Romanian military official mentioned that, together with the team from the Ministry of National Defense, he will strive to ensure the efficient implementation of programs and projects related to the field of training, logistics, and medical, intended for the development of the defense institution of the Republic of Moldova, and will provide the necessary support within UN, EU, and NATO organizations.

At the same time, Brigadier General Eduard Ohladciuc and General Daniel Petrescu spoke about the activity of the Moldovan-Romanian Joint Commission in the field of defense and increasing the interoperability between the two armies through the participation of Moldovan and Romanian soldiers in multinational exercises.

Also, today the Romanian delegation had a series of meetings with specialists from the subdivisions of the Ministry of Defense and the National Army General Staff.

Tomorrow, General Petrescu will participate, along with the commander of the National Guard of North Carolina, United States of America, Major General Marvin T. Hunt, ambassadors, and military attachés, on distinguished visitors` day of the multinational exercise "Fire Shield-2022".

The official visit to our country of the delegation led by Army General Daniel Petrescu takes place from September 21-22 this year in accordance with the Foreign Activity Plan of the Ministry of Defense and National Army for 2022.
