Moldovan-Italian bilateral consultations, at the Ministry of Defense

CHISINAU, December 6, 2022 — The Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatii had, today, a meeting with the Italian delegation led by Brigadier General Alessandro Grassano, Deputy Head of the Military Policy Department of the General Staff of Defense, in the context of the Moldovan-Italian bilateral consultations in the field of politics of defense and cooperation, which take place between December 5-7, currently, in Chisinau.

The parties discussed the Moldovan-Italian military cooperation, the prospects for strengthening the partnership, the European integration objective of our country, but also the regional security situation. Anatolie Nosatii informed the Italian side about the modernization process of the National Army, the programs and initiatives carried out in the defense institution, as well as the objective of intensifying the participation of the Moldovan military in international peacekeeping operations.

In this context, the Minister of Defense thanked the Italian partners for the assistance, including logistics, given to the Moldovan contingents active in the peacekeeping mission in Kosovo and within the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

At the same time, Minister Nosatii appreciated the financial support offered by the Government of Italy in the framework of the NATO/Partnership for Peace project regarding the destruction of pesticides and chemical products from the Republic of Moldova, as well as in the running of the project in the field of military medicine within the Defense Capabilities Consolidation Initiative (DCBI ).

For his part, Brigadier General Alessandro Grassano mentioned that his country is available to continue providing assistance to the development of the defense and security sector of the Republic of Moldova.

During the Moldovan-Italian consultations, the bilateral cooperation plan between the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova and the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Italy for the year 2023 was signed.

The Moldovan-Italian partnership in the field of defense began in 2006.
