Canadian Member of Parliament Visits Ministry of Defense



CHISINAU, August 2, 2011 — Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta met Tuesday, August 2, with the Defense Committee Member of the Canadian Parliament House of Commons, Corneliu Chisu, and the Ambassador the Republic of Moldova to the USA, Igor Munteanu.

Vitalie Marinuta congratulated Corneliu Chisu on his assignment as Member of Canadian Parliament, being sure of the fact this would enhance the cooperation relationship between our countries. The parties discussed about the current development of the Moldovan-Canadian relationship, focusing mainly on the defense area.

“We are concerned about strengthening and enhancing the bilateral military equal and mutual relations with all the world countries, and Canada is one of them”, Minister of Defense stated during the meeting with Corneliu Chisu. “I believe your visit to Moldova is a new starting point in the development of bilateral military relations, for our goal is to foster the political and military dialogue between the two militaries”.

The Canadian Member of Parliament thanked the Minister of Defense for hospitality. The official stated Moldovan had progressed from all points of view and this denotes the fact all the Moldovan authorities’ policies were chosen appropriately. The Canadian MP also pointed out the commitment of the Government of Canada to strengthening democratic policies and fulfilling the European integration task.

“Changes made in Moldova and the Moldovan Government’s commitment to European integration is encouraging. Thus, Canada is ready to help Moldova in different situations, including those occurring in the defense area. Canada has a rich peacekeeping experience to share with the Moldovan servicemen”, Corneliu Chisu specified.

The Minister of Defense expressed his conviction about Moldova and Canada further cooperation to identify all the necessary mechanisms that would definitely foster the military cooperation between the states. Vitalie Marinuta and Corneliu Chisu have highly appreciated the exchange of opinions and agreed to keep discussing about some important issues of mutual concern.

The Canadian MP, Corneliu Chisu, was born in Romania and worked as an Honorary Council of Republic of Moldova to Canada during 1994 — 2003.
