Moldovan peacekeepers are training for the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon



CHISINAU, January 26, 2023 — The soldiers of the National Army, expected to participate in the Peacekeeping Mission in the Republic of Lebanon — the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), are preparing in accordance with the rules of activity in an international environment.

The training, which takes place between January 9-27 this year, at the Training Battalion — Military Training Base of the National Army, includes both theoretical and practical sessions, based on scenarios specific to international theaters of operations.

The main topics studied relate to the tactics, techniques and procedures used by peacekeepers in peacekeeping operations, including during patrols and the guarding of important objectives. Soldiers also learn survival techniques, first aid and evacuation, as well as how to act in different crisis situations.

The Multinational Peacekeeping Operations Course is conducted in accordance with the National Army Training Plan for the current year.

The officers, sergeants and soldiers, who will be deployed in the mission in Lebanon in February 2023, will operate in the area of ​​responsibility of the Italian Forces Command.

It should be noted that, currently, four Moldovan peacekeepers are active in the headquarters of the UNIFIL operation. They have been deployed in Lebanon since August 2022. Their mandate lasts for six months.

The initiative to deploy the National Army soldiers within the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon supports the objective of intensifying the contribution to ensuring peace by participating in international missions, provided for in the Government’s Activity Program, but also in the context of the implementation of the provisions of Law no.219/2015 regarding the participation of the Republic of Moldova in international missions and operations.
