Distinctions for soldiers returning from Lebanon

CHISINAU, March 3, 2023 — The first officers and sergeants of the National Army have returned home from the peacekeeping operation in the Republic of Lebanon — the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). They were seconded to the mission as staff officers in August 2022.

On this occasion, the Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatîi congratulated the military, who were active in the headquarters of the mission and executed at the highest level all the tasks set by the command of the Italian forces.

“The experience you have accumulated during this period is important and useful for the National Army contingent that was deployed to UNIFIL the previous month, but also for those that are about to go to Lebanon. You were the first military team to go on this peacekeeping mission, which is a new one for our country and the National Army. You represented the Republic of Moldova and the National Army with honor in this theater of operations, and your performance was appreciated by the foreign partners”, said the Minister of Defense.

For the professionalism demonstrated in the UNIFIL mission, the four military were decorated with the Medal “For Humanitarian and Peacekeeping Missions” of the National Army.

It should be noted that in February 2023, the National Army deployed a contingent of 32 professional soldiers to UNIFIL.

UNIFIL was established for the purpose of withdrawing Israeli forces from southern Lebanon and restoring international peace and security. About 10,500 soldiers from 45 countries of the world participate in the UNIFIL mission.
