Military Academy Team Wins Minister’s of Defense Cup

CHISINAU, August 12, 2011 — Alexandru cel Bun Military Academy won Friday, August 12, the Minister’s of Defense Cup within the 5^th edition of the military sports competition held within the National Army.

Thus, Alexandru cel Bun Military Academy won the first prize, followed by Fulger Special Forces Battalion and Stefan cel Mare Infantry Brigade, that won the second and third prizes.

Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta handed over the cup to the winner. The teams to win the second and the third places were awarded diplomas and medals.

“I would like to congratulate servicemen who demonstrated their sports skills during the competition and fulfilled all the tasks recording great performances. Each of you proved you are the best. This progress speaks about the fact that the National Army has competitive and skillful servicemen able to work successfully both in a team and individually”, the Minister of Defense stated.

Vitalie Marinuta also awarded a special prize to 1^st Lt. Alexandru Ene. He won the wrestle competition which he was given a buck for. Alexandru Ene is a platoon commander within the Military Academy. He fought with the representative of Fulger Battalion, Soldier Victor Burduniuc, in the wrestling competition.

During the Minister’s of Defense Cup, the participants had to pass nine tests. Three more tests were out of the competition.

The pentathlon competition was meant for men. It included 100 meter distance running, standard dead-hand pull up, a shooting drill, and others. On the other hand, women competed for military triathlon that included shooting, 1000 meter distance running and others.

Moreover, during the competition for individuals, servicemen competed at running, hand grenade throwing, etc.

The Minister’s of Defense Cup is held yearly. The Competition aims at improving the sports skills of the National Army servicemen.

This year edition of the competition brought together nearly 150 servicemen from 12 National Army units.
