The pontoon bridge from Leova-Bumbata was put into operation

CHISINAU, May 23, 2023 — The State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense, Sergiu Plop, participated, together with officials from the Government of the Republic of Moldova and Romania, at the inauguration of the Leova — Bumbata State Border Crossing Point.

The event was attended by the soldiers from the Genius “Codru” Battalion of the National Army and the soldiers from the 72nd Genius Battalion “General Constantin Savu” from the 10th Genius Brigade of the Lower Danube of the Romanian army, who during the period May 8-21 this year, performed the placement works of the elements of the pontoon bridge.

It should be noted that the construction project of the Leova-Bumbăta crossing point began in the summer of 2022. Initially, the soldiers of the “Codru” Genius Battalion were involved in setting up the access ramp for the installation of the pontoon bridge.

In the future, they will provide the command and maintenance service of the pontoon bridge over the Prut River, which will facilitate international road traffic on the Moldovan-Romanian segment.
